Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic, public speaker and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and comments on depictions of women's roles in popular media. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that examines female representations in the popular media narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being an acclaimed public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was founded on the 9th of September 2009 by Sarkeesian, an undergraduate student at York University who had been involved in topics concerning gender and feminism since a lengthy period of. She had a plan to create a web series on gender-based representations in video games. She was the subject of an online harassment campaign. The attack wasn't enough to stop her.
